Day 20 - Monks & Mullets

I managed to have two BBQ's today. The one at lunch-time was pretty shit, and I can't say anything bad about the wonderful company, but it pales in comparison to the evening's events...

I met Kahuna & Bron, Arlin & Em and Dr. Smoothtones in the wonderful family (and 'cruiser') orientated surroundings of Western Springs park. Abe & Mythily joined us also.

Fortunately, we were't harrassed by the masses of lake and swamp-dwelling birds, but it could have had something to do with this guy:

I was called en route to the park with a request for something to kick-start the insta-grills with. I have learned that although service stations stock kindling and coal, they fail to stock fire-lighters. Probably a good thing considering all the petroleum buried beneath the forecourt, but for the pioneering BBQer, ultimately frustrating.

However, there are of course, many ways to skin a cat.

There are also many ways to kick-start a fire. This service station stocked handy little cans of spray-on deodorant that fit snugly between the beers in my chilli-bag and started fires beautifully, as the above picture has documented.

Now that the insta-grills had begun their smokey journey to cooking temperature, we could relax with some beers and Kokomo.

During our guitar and ukulele rendition of Kokomo, a group of Monks stopped for a gander at our mini-festivus, along with a superbly mulleted kid.

I decided to roll with "Beef & Guiness" sausages. Delicious. Also on the menu was corn, vege sausages and patties, Angus Beef sausages and a watermelon (which I did try to BBQ but have concluded Watermelon is meant to be eaten cold and uncooked).

Success.
